On September 1st, Zak Mulkey’s life changed in an instant. While out walking his dog, Zak suffered a sudden seizure that caused him to fall and sustain three skull fractures, a brain bleed, and frontal lobe contusions. He has been in the Neuro ICU at St. Mary’s Hospital ever since, facing a severe traumatic brain injury. Zak’s condition has been further complicated by pneumonia and Respiratory Distress Syndrome, a life-threatening lung disorder. His recovery will be a long journey, with months or even years of rehabilitation and specialized care ahead. To know Zak is to love Zak. He has always had a positive impact on his friends and family; and an even greater force with the community of West Palm Beach. From rescuing animals in the back alley of Respectable Street, to saving lives of the people he cares about. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing him, you’d see the selfless soul he has always been. His efforts of going above and beyond for his friends who have either been in distress or difficult situations, has always been unmatched. Zak has always been the person to put his own struggles aside to be the support his friends have always needed. He’s always been the one to voluntarily take on other peoples responsibilities, just to make it easier on them. As his good deeds have continued on, he has never expected anything in return. His natural ability to connect with people is astonishing. Whether he’s met someone once or you’ve known him for years, he has always had a way with making people feel appreciated in his presence. He is a loving and supportive husband to his wife Jacqueline Vetter, and a caring daddy to his fur babies, Otis Roo, Frank Lasagna, Sammy Spaghetti, and Roman Miles. Now, as Zak faces the most difficult challenge of his life, his family and friends are rallying to support him. Funds raised will help cover Zak’s extensive medical bills, ongoing rehabilitation, and the long-term care he will need as he recovers. The timeline and total costs are still uncertain, but the need is urgent. Any support will make a real difference for Zak and his family as they navigate this difficult road ahead. Thank you for standing with Zak and helping him get the care he needs.
