Ever since I was a child, I've always felt connected to the world around me on a soul level; nature, animals and people, but after losing my sister (physically) in 2020, followed by my mother in 2021 and father in 2022 I couldn't help but feel like the earth was collapsing under my feet.

Where I once felt grounded, sure and strong, suddenly I was feeling unsteady, confused and fragile. Everything I thought I knew was dismantled in an instant as if God was saying "You've been comfortable and unwilling for far too long. It's time to change that".

So I turned to yoga.

Learning how to move my body, work with my breath and tune into myself (Spirit) gave me a sense of comfort and awareness and the steadiness I so desperately craved. Yoga was about me. No external factors or influences. Just Zahirah, rediscovering self with the guidance and support of the yoga community.

It wasn't until a friend of mine saw me stretching on the side of the road (during a 10 hour road trip) and said "I can see you doing this--teaching others" that I even considered the possibility...

For YEARS, I played around with the idea of becoming certified, but the self-sabotage was real! My fear of whether or not I would be good enough just kept deterring me. To go after something I REALLY wanted and potentially fail terrified the living daylights out of me.

Then after my children's father passed at the start of 2025, I found myself running out of excuses. What was I waiting for? What was there left to consider? What more did I have to lose? Was I just going to keep sitting around, dreaming, wanting, but never taking action??

An intense fire came over me. A fueling. I could feel my purpose aligning, my path clearing, possibilities finally starting to open up in my minds eye. "No More Hiding".

So I made the decision to attend yoga school. After months of procrastinating, researching, second-guessing, formulating a plan... I finally put one into action! Overcoming many self-inflicted obstacles and blockages.

Now, I'm proud to say that I WILL be attending Full Lotus Yoga in Detroit this Fall of 2025 to acquire my 200HR YTT (yoga teacher training) certification. I've already secured my first payment and with these funds I intend to pay off my remaining balance before school starts on September 5th ✨⭐

The journey of self-discovery is neverending and with the tools I develop I intend to not only heal myself (and further my practice), but inspire others to do the same.
