As many of you may know, Zack became extremely ill on February 5th, which sent him to emergency care at their local hospital where they quickly realized he was having a neurological problem. This advanced rapidly, causing paralysis from the chest down. On Friday, February 7th, Zack was life-flighted to Kennestone Hospital and directly admitted to the neuro critical care unit. At this time, they began testing aggressively and have diagnosed Zack with Transverse Myelitis. It is affecting the spinal cord at his vertebrae C7 and T10 through L3. What this means is he has lesions at both of these locations that are all the way across the spinal cord. The lesion is the diameter of the spinal cord, essentially a spinal cord injury without an actual injury. Prognosis is a long recovery, months to perhaps years, and over half diagnosed with this disease return to prior levels of function with extensive therapy. Currently, while inpatient at the hospital, he is having therapy services as well as plasma exchange therapy and high-dose steroid therapy. Once discharged, he will transfer to another inpatient facility where he will receive advanced physical therapy treatments daily. It is expected he will undergo aggressive treatment and physical therapy over the next several months and possibly years leading to his recovery.

For those of you who know Zack, you know what a strong, loving, kind, giving, hardworking man of God he is. This situation has been devastating for him and his family. Their whole world has been rocked and turned inside out. That's the reason for creating this GoFundMe. His wife Samantha is commuting several hours daily to be with Zack. They have received lots of support from friends and family. However, there will be ongoing financial needs including medical expenses for Zack as well as everyday needs for Samantha and Vivian.
