Help Zachary Heal from Urgent Brain Surgery

Hello everyone,

My name is Sherry, and I am Zach’s mom.

A lot of you may remember, a few years ago, that Zach was diagnosed with Chiari (kee-aa-ree) malformation while away at Navy boot camp. Chiari is a serious condition where the brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. When we saw the neurosurgeon back then, they suggested to wait to have surgery until it was affecting everyday life, due to the complexity of the surgery. That day has finally come. After suffering the last few years, the pain got worse and Zach learned that he had developed a large seroma that is now causing a dangerous blockage and nerve damage. His doctors told him that he urgently needs decompression surgery to relieve the pressure and prevent further complications.

The surgery is absolutely necessary, and time is critical. As you can imagine, the road to recovery will be long and difficult. Zach will be unable to work for at least three months while he heals. During this time, he’ll still have to cover his regular bills, medical expenses, and basic living costs for him, his wife and two precious babies.

As his mom and dad, it’s hard to watch him go through this and not be able to take away the pain or worry. What we can do is reach out and ask for support from friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers who believe in the power of community and compassion and prayer.

Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly to Zach to go towards medical costs, recovery expenses, and helping Zach keep up with essential bills while he focuses on healing. Even if you can’t give financially, sharing his story means the world to us.
