Everyone please meet Yumi, my 5 year old oriental shorthair.
On February 8th I got home from work and Yumi was struggling to breathe, she was completely lethargic and non-responsive, I couldn’t get her up and she was unable to stand. I could also hear a gurgling coming from her chest so I immediately scooped her into my arms and rushed her to the closest hospital, which was blue pearl in Levittown.
After waiting in the ER for two hours and assuming it would be bronchitis, I heard what I never expected - they told me that Yumi was in heart failure, and had a nasty case of pneumonia on top of it. They had to rush her back to tap her lungs and remove the fluid and she ended up being hospitalized in an oxygen tank for 4 days. They were able to get her stabilized and I could bring her home, however, the vet bill left me $7200 in debt.
Yumi has a long road ahead of her for recovery and trying to stabilize this condition long term. We have a specialist appointment coming up on Tuesday the 18th to find out exactly what type of heart failure it is and how well we will be able to manage it.
(The vet check up for vitals is $450, and the specialist appointment with the cardiologist is $1,100. This is the cost before any medication or knowing how often we will need to see the doctors for check ups until we get her condition stabilized)
I was not at all expecting something like this to happen because Yumi was always healthy and she was a breed not known for having any medical conditions, so unfortunately, I did not have health insurance on her at the time. While I have added it for her and my other two kitties, I am still deeply in debt and not quite sure how I’m going to manage to crawl out of this.
If there’s anyway you could find it in your heart to consider donating or sharing our story, it would mean the world to me and our family.
I’m a single mom to a special needs eight-year-old, who is extremely attached to these kitties as well, and I want to do everything in my power to ensure that Yumi is able to live a long, healthy life with us, regardless of how scary this situation was.
Please help give our family the chance to be able to spend our lives with her, Yumi is my baby and has been the rock of our family for many years.
I will also be attaching copies of the vet bills to prove exactly how much each stay/procedure ect costs(on IG) I have 12 months to pay off the care credit bill of 6k other wise I have to pay $1600 in interest.
(I diminished the majority of my savings when my father died two years ago and I only recently pulled myself out of debt before this happened- I had to take $1200 from my savings just to get her discharged from the hospital, I have exactly enough for her specialist appointment and then my savings are completely gone)
If you are unable to donate, please share this any way and any where you can!
Team Yumi forever
-sincerely a very anxious, very scared, but very hopeful mom.
-with love, Veronica & Ash Roselli
