The Incarceration-to-College Program, in partnership with the Justice Education Project, is launching a groundbreaking civic writing and education initiative inside Alameda County Juvenile Hall. This spring, youth participants will engage in a multi-month sequence of in-person workshops, developing substantial written pieces with the support of dedicated mentors, faculty, and staff. The program is unique in its integration of long-form writing, sustained editorial mentorship, and public-facing publication opportunities, all designed to empower youth and amplify their voices.
As the program culminates in an early May seminar or panel, we are seeking scholarships to ensure every youth participant can fully benefit from this transformative experience. The final event will bring together youth, Berkeley faculty and students, justice system stakeholders, and community partners, creating a powerful space for dialogue and civic engagement. By supporting this initiative, you are helping to translate youth-authored work into meaningful conversations with decision-makers and educators, building a bridge between juvenile hall programming, higher education, and the broader community.
Your contribution will directly impact the youth by providing funds for their writing, re-entry, future plans, and overall contributions. This work is not only important—it is life-changing. It offers young people a chance to heal their relationship with education and envision new possibilities for themselves. We need your support, and so does our community. Please join us in making a difference.
