Last year, Charlie’s appearance at the 2024 ALFED Annual Dinner left an indelible mark on all who were present. His deeply moving keynote—centred around his recovery from a life‑changing brain injury, his inspired return to sport, and the unwavering belief that “giving up never has to be an option”—resonated with every one of the more than 300 guests, culminating in a spontaneous standing ovation.

Charlie shared his powerful story with grace and authenticity: how at just 15 he suffered a catastrophic accident, endured six months in intensive rehabilitation, and still found the strength to go on and represent Northern Ireland in cerebral palsy football, eventually being honoured with an MBE in 2018. His message wasn’t just about survival—it was about finding purpose and possibility in adversity. That unforgettable speech encapsulated the very essence of resilience, positivity, and the human spirit.
