Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL) in Iowa has a goal of taking up to six Iowans, ages ~18-32, to DC to participate in the national CCE (CC Education) Conference July 19-21. They will be trained in CCL lobbying, and then lobby respectfully on July 22 with nearly 1,000 citizen volunteers from across the US as part of a CCL team with their Senators' and Representative's offices on July 22 in support of CCL approved effective climate solutions.
** NOTE: Donations to this campaign are not tax deductible. Donations are not overseen or administered by CCE or CCL. This is a special project of CCL volunteers in Iowa separate from the national organization.**
We hope to raise $400+ for each participant for low-emission transportation expenses, meals and conference registration. There is no cost to register to lobby. Lodging will be provided via homestays or at a church.
The number of travelships available will be determined by the amount raised. Any monies donated above what is required for the travelships will be sent on to the national organization at Citizens' Climate Education.
Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, international and volunteer driven climate change organization advocating for effective climate solutions, with over 236,000 supporters across the US. In Iowa, supporters number 1800+ in 8 chapters. In July, over 300 US chapters will have nearly 1000 volunteers go to Washington D.C. for our National Conference and Lobby sessions on Capitol Hill to advocate for meaningful climate legislation to save our planet.
CCL was instrumental in passing the Inflation Reduction Act--- legislation that provides tax credits and other benefits to transition away from polluting fossil fuels. This was an important first step but we have more work to do. CCL is now actively working to maintain those benefits. Our members of Congress are particularly interested in hearing from young people. We need your help! IOWA CCL wants to make sure that our state's young voices are heard at this important event.
If you are, or know of, a young Iowan (18-25) who might be interested in participating, please use this registration link, which only registers interest. It is NOT obligatory in any way. https://forms.gle/nZkYNLVcMfroz6HM9
