On September 17, 2025, my world was shaken when my 21-year-old nephew Akeem was in a devastating accident. While working, he crashed into a tree. The crash left him with severe burns on his face and arms, injuries that will change his life forever.

Just two days later, on September 19, he was in surgery, where doctors performed skin grafts on his arms and hands. The pain he’s endured is unimaginable, but he continues to fight through it with courage and determination.

What makes this even harder is knowing the kind of young man he is and his goal to take be a caregiver for his autistic brother. At only 21, Akeem has been working two jobs to make ends meet. He never complained, never asked for help, and never wanted to be a burden on anyone, determined to build a better life for himself on his own terms.

Now, he faces a long, painful road to recovery. Burn injuries require not only surgeries but also months of therapy to regain the use of his hands and arms. He will not be able to work for some time, and the medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and even simple living expenses are overwhelming for someone so young.
