Calvin Riley Baseball Scholarship Fund – In Memory of a Rising Star

Honoring Calvin’s legacy by helping young athletes pursue their dreams on the diamond.

Calvin Riley was a vibrant, determined young athlete with a fierce love for baseball and an even bigger heart for his teammates and community. At just 20 years old, Calvin was a valuable member of the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs baseball team, known for his bulldog mentality on the mound, his joy in the dugout, and the way he brought out the best in everyone around him.

On the evening of August 6, 2016, while out with a friend in San Francisco’s Aquatic Park, Calvin’s life was tragically cut short. He was shot while playing Pokémon Go, with no confrontation, no robbery—just an unimaginable act of violence that took him from this world far too soon.

His family, his teammates, and his community were devastated by the loss of a young man with so much promise and so many dreams.

Though Calvin is gone, his legacy remains—through the friendships he forged, the joy he brought to the game, and the standard of character he lived by. His life reminds us of the fragility of our time here, and the importance of paying it forward.

Why the Scholarship

“Calvin Riley Baseball Scholarship Fund” in partnership with San Joaquin Delta College to honor Calvin’s memory by supporting young baseball players who embody his spirit: hard-working, team-first athletes who love the game, support their peers, and strive to elevate everyone around them.

Proceeds from this fund will provide baseball scholarships to eligible student-athletes at San Joaquin Delta College (or partner institutions, as determined) to help with costs of participation—uniforms, equipment, travel, training, and academic support—so that more young players can chase their dreams both on and off the field.

Our Goal

We aim to raise $10,000 (or more) to establish a recurring scholarship fund that can benefit multiple players over time. Your donation—large or small—makes a meaningful difference.

Our Commitment

We pledge transparency and accountability. The scholarship fund will be managed under the 501(c)(3) non-profit structure of San Joaquin Delta College (or other approved charitable arm) and will provide annual updates on how many scholarships are awarded, recipient profiles, and impact stories.
