Help Yostena Fight Breast Cancer

On June 6, 2025, Yostena Makram-Donahue received news that would change her life forever—she was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer.

Just a few short weeks later, on July 1st, she bravely underwent a double mastectomy with reconstruction as the first step in a long and grueling fight to beat this devastating disease.

Yostena's battle is deeply personal. She has already endured unimaginable loss, having lost her beloved mother to ovarian cancer and her sister, Ireny, to breast cancer. Now, she is courageously stepping into this fight herself.

Yostena is one of the kindest, most selfless people to know. She is a devoted wife, loving daughter and sister, a loyal friend and above all, an incredible mother. Her strength and spirit inspire everyone who knows her—but no one should have to face this alone.

In the coming weeks, Yostena will begin a rigorous treatment plan that includes 20 weeks of chemotherapy and 4 weeks of daily radiation. The emotional and physical toll will be immense—but so too will be the financial burden. Despite insurance, there are many expenses that won’t be covered: medical bills, travel to and from appointments, lost wages, childcare, home care, and other unexpected costs that come with a serious illness like this.

Yostena is currently out of work due to her illness, and her husband has also had to take time away from work to care for her and their family during this incredibly difficult time. With both incomes impacted, the financial strain is even more significant.
