Support a Venezuelan Family on Their Asylum Journey
Donation protected
Hi everyone! I'm raising money to help my friend and her sons get started in the United States. We met here in Pachuca, Mexico (where we live) - she and her sons had arrived in Mexico from Venezuela mostly on foot, going through a truly horrible journey which involved almost losing their lives more than once. She worked for us as a cleaner for a few months while applying for their appointment to request asylum in the United States, and we became good friends. She is a kind, hardworking person, and so are her sons. It is truly inspiring how resilient they have been, and how they manage to retain hope and faith despite the challenges they have been through.
They were given an appointment to meet with a judge in Denver to process their asylum application, and are now in the United States. They only had enough funds to make it to Texas, however, where they are staying in a migrant shelter. My husband and I have helped them with some of their basic needs, and are fundraising to help with the following expenses to help them make it to Denver in time for their asylum appointment and help them get on their feet until they are able to find work:
- Transport from Texas to Denver
- Immigration lawyer fees, to help them strengthen their asylum application (applicants who are able to contract a private lawyer have a higher chance of their applications being accepted).
- Accommodation and food while applying asylum (until they receive work permits)
With permission, I am sharing the photo above, as well as this photo of her and her sons. I have removed names from this post for privacy purposes. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a large difference in the life of this family. In addition to the challenges of their journey, my friend has a condition which requires ongoing medical care; once their asylum application is processed it will be easier for her to get the care she needs.
