Ella es Yolanda Duarte de Arocha, nuestra madre, una mujer venezolana con guaramo e independiente. Inclusive ante la trágica muerte de nuestro padre, después de 42 años de matrimonio, ella ha batallo con la depresión por haber perdido su compañero de vida. Durante su recuperación, 3 años atrás, mama empezo a perder movilidad en su lado derecho, la habilidad de hablar y la pérdida de la memoria.


Su doctor le hizo una resonancia magnética y el resultado fue un tumor gigante que cubría la mayoría del lado izquierdo de su cerebro. Gracias a Dios, fue un tumor benigno. El doctor removió por completo el tumor y nuestra madre empezó a recuperarse inmediatamente. 15 días después de la cirugía, empezó a presentar necropsia de piel en la herida. Debido a la situación en Venezuela, ella no logro encontrar los antibióticos que necesitaba para tratar la infección, nosotros tuvimos que encontrarlo entre amigos en Europa, México y los Estados Unidos. Después de un año, la parte del hueso que estaba expuesto se infecto y nuestra madre tuvo otra operación para remover la parte del hueso que se infecto en el cráneo.


La infección continuó expandiéndose y los doctores en Venezuela le dijeron que ellos no podían seguir tratandola, que ella necesitaba salir del pais lo mas pronto posible. Ese fue otro problema porque su pasaporte expiró y para poder obtener el otro esperamos casi un año. Mientras tanto, la infección continuó expandiéndose y la herida seguía abriéndose.


Finalmente, pudimos traerla a los Estados Unidos, pero ella no tenia ningun tipo de seguro. Mientras tratábamos de ver qué podíamos hacer, el 13 de Enero mama empezo a convulsionar (11 veces en 3 horas). La llevamos de emergencia al hospital Parkland, donde le hicieron 4 cirugías. La Última fue la que estábamos esperando porque en ella le harian un injerto y finalmente cerrarian la herida que nuestra madre tuvo por 3 años. Todos estábamos contentos de llevarla casa, pero cuando hablamos con los doctores las noticias no fueron las esperadas. Los doctores nos dijeron que la cirugía fue más complicada de lo que esperaban. Ellos pudieron limpiar la infección y cerraron la herida pero mama perdio el habla y parte de su movilidad en lado derecho.


Nuestra madre está lista para empezar su proceso de recuperación y seguir su tratamiento desde casa, visitas semanales de los terapistas, tratamiento de la diabetes, etc. Debido a esta emergencia, tuvimos que parar su proceso de inmigración y no tiene seguro para cubrir el tratamiento y las cuentas del hospital.


Nosotros hemos dado todo lo que podemos por ella y vamos a seguir haciéndolo, pero en este momento necesitamos de su ayuda, para que nuestra madre pueda continuar con el proceso de recuperación. Nosotros tenemos la esperanza de que va a seguir recuperándose y seguir viviendo una vida feliz y con salud.

She is Yolanda Duarte de Arocha, our mother, an independent strong Venezuelan woman. Even after the tragic loss of our father, after 42 years of marriage, she battled the depression of losing her all time partner and during this recovering, 3 years ago, all of a sudden she started to lose mobility in her right side of her body, the ability to speak, and loss of her memory. 


Her doctor did an MRI with the result of a huge tumor that cover most of the left side of her brain. Thanks God it was a benign tumor. The doctor removed the whole tumor and our mother started recovering very fast. 15 days after the surgery she started to present skin necropsy in the tissue where the wound from the surgery was. Due the situation  in Venezuela, she couldn’t get the antibiotics needed to treat the infection, we had to find them between family and friends in Europe, United States and Mexico. After a year, the part of the bone that was exposed got infected and our mother had to go to another surgery to remove the infected bone. 


The infection continued and the doctors in Venezuela told our mother they couldn't  keep treating her in Venezuela and she needed to leave the country soon. That was another problem because my mom passport expired and to get another one, we had to wait almost a year. Meanwhile the infection continue to expand and the wound kept opening. 


Finally, we could bring her to the United States, but she did not have any insurance. We were trying to figure out what we could do, when all of the sudden, in January 13 our mother started to have seizures (11 times in 3 hours). We took her to the emergency room in Parkland Hospital where they did 4 surgeries in a period of 4 months. The last surgery was at the end of March. The last surgery was the one we were waiting for because they will do a flap and finally close the wound that our mother had for 3 years. We were excited to see her and take her home, but the doctors told us that the surgery was more complicated that they were expecting and even though they cleaned most of the infection and closed the wound my mom lost the speech and part of the mobility on her right side.


Our mother is ready to start her long recovery process and keep the treatment from home, weekly visits to the therapist, treatment to control her sugar levels, etc. Due to this emergency we had to stop her immigartion process and she does not have any insurance to cover the treatment and the bills from the hospital.


We give everything for her and we are going to keep doing it, but today we ask you to help us, so our mother can continue her recovery process. We are hopeful  that she will recover and keep living a healthy and happy life.
