Help Yohar Fight Hodgkin Lymphoma Stage 4 and Find Safe Housing During Treatment

My name is Mindy, and I want to share the story of an incredible young man named Yohar.

Yohar is only 19 years old and is currently battling leukemia while facing homelessness. Despite everything life has thrown at him, he continues to show strength, gratitude, and unwavering faith in God.

Yohar is originally from Nicaragua. When he was just 9 years old, his father left, and he began working at a very young age to help support his mother. Even through hardship, he remained determined and passionate about basketball. His talent and dedication eventually earned him a scholarship to play basketball at a private high school in Miami.

Unfortunately, without enough financial support to cover the remaining tuition, Yohar had to leave the school. With nowhere to go and no family nearby, he became homeless.

Since then, Yohar has taken any job he could find, construction work, landscaping, cleaning pools, anything to survive. In his own words, “I’d do anything and everything for work.” His work ethic and humility are remarkable for someone so young.

Recently, Yohar’s life took an even more difficult turn.

After walking nearly two hours to reach the hospital while extremely ill, doctors discovered he was suffering from two tension pneumothoraxes, ulcers, dysphagia, a swollen leg, and he was ultimately diagnosed with hodgkin lymphoma stage 4.

Despite all of this, Yohar keeps going.

He has now been in the hospital for over a month receiving treatment and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Doctors expect his treatment to continue for approximately 12 months.

During this time, Yohar will need a safe and stable place to live while he continues his chemotherapy and recovery. Right now, the biggest concern is what happens when he is discharged from the hospital.

Yohar has no stable housing and very limited support. Which makes it extremely difficult for him to have a stable life style.

What makes Yohar truly special is his faith and humility. He is a devoted Christian who reads his Bible every morning and finds strength in his relationship with God. His favorite book of the Bible is Psalms, and one of his life mottos is:

“We come into this world with nothing, and we leave with nothing.”

Even while receiving chemotherapy, Yohar told me that when he feels better he hopes to cook a meal for me as a thank you. That is the kind of heart he has.

When I asked him how people could help him, his answer was simple:

“Just prayers, and thank you to everyone who has prayed so far.”

While Yohar isn’t asking for money, we know he will need support to get through this season of life.

The funds raised will go toward:

• Safe housing near the hospital during treatment

• Food and meal delivery

• Transportation to medical appointments

• Laundry and basic living necessities

• Clothing and hygiene supplies

• Any additional needs during his 12 months of chemotherapy

Our goal is simply to give Yohar a safe place to rest, heal, and focus on fighting cancer.
