My name is Yazan.

When the war began, I was only 16 years old.

Today, I am 18, and I have been leading my family ever since.

We are a family of eight.

My father lost his job.

My mother suffers from heart disease and had open-heart surgery.

I have five younger siblings:

Mohammad, Yamen, Yasser, Hussein, and my little sister Haya.

I try to be strong for them,

but I am truly exhausted.

We are not asking for luxury.

We are asking for dignity:

• Safety for our children
