My friend Yauri Hernandez, 30-year-old wife of Luis and mother of six precious children, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in July of 2024. Six years ago, they left Venezuela because of the economic crisis there and settled in Arauca, Colombia. It is difficult to face a health crisis like leukemia with little to no support group, since they left their friends and family behind.
Yauri is receiving medical care in San Cristobal, Venezuela at the Tachira Clinic. Although it is costly to receive care in VZ (there is no medical insurance- it's all self pay) the care is better and there are less hoops to jump through.
Due to caring for Yauri and the children and housekeeping, Luis has not been able to hold a job, though he does sell Plantain chips in the streets as he has time.
Yauri is presently in a fight to get her kidneys working properly to avoid going on dialysis. On September 18, 2025, a procedure was done to put a catheter directly into Yauri's kidney to keep fluid drained off and hopefully give it a chance to heal. It has been successful in the sense that for these four months Yauri has not had fluid retention throughout her whole body like before. However, the time has come to remove the catheter. After that, it will be a matter of waiting to see if her kidney has recovered and is able to function better. We continue to pray for a miracle of healing. As I write this, Yauri is in San Cristobal for a checkup and to find out when the doctor plans to remove the catheter. The placement of the catheter was costly and the removal of the catheter will be a similar procedure, that obviously is not free either.
All donations that are made to this gofundme, are being used to cover Yauri's medical care, rent, and food.
Again thanks for your ongoing prayer support and financial support of Yauri and Luis and their family. They realize that they are completely at the mercy of generous people that God has brought into their lives.
