Support Yappy's Healing Journey

Can you help? While we are not altogether comfortable doing this and have never started a GoFundMe account before, we could really use some help for our little chihuahua, Yappy. Her back story: We adopted “Yappy” as part of a bonded pair from Portland Dachshund Rescue in June of 2024. Yappy came to us with a pre-existing eye condition which required daily drops to help generate tears for eye moisture. We were told that here was a possibility that the drops would not be beneficial enough and that an eye removal surgery might be necessary. After providing the daily eye drops for 7 months and seeing no measurable improvement it was recommended that she have her eye removed in order to provide her with a better quality of life. That surgery took place on Friday, Jan. 31st. What was thought to be a routine surgery sadly ended up being anything but. During the first days following her initial surgery she developed an abscess which had to be addressed during a revisionary surgery on Monday, Feb. 3rd. While there was no definitive cause, it is believed her little body may have had a reaction to the stitches and she subsequently developed a severe infection. We then rushed Yappy to Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency and Referral on Wednesday, Feb. 5th where she was placed in ICU for 3+ days. She endured yet another surgery on Thursday, Feb. 6th (making that three surgeries within one week) to address the severe infection that was spreading and to remove the necrotic tissue that had developed. Thanks to the outstanding care and attention she received from the surgeons and staff at Bridgetown, she is finally back home with us and is on the mend…for which we are eternally grateful!! While she has a long road to a full recovery, we are confident she’ll be back to her old self in no time. However, while she is recovering, she has let us know that she will not be able to get a job (kissing booth, dog biscuit bake sale, calendar modeling, etc.) for the foreseeable future in order to help with the expenses that were incurred throughout her ordeal. That is why she is reaching out via this GoFundMe to see if anyone would be willing and able to chip in a little bit towards her high medical bills.
