Hi, my name is Yaleni, and I’m raising funds to purchase a new clarinet as I begin my freshman year at Lawrence University, where I’ll be majoring in Music Education. Music has been the driving force in my life for as long as I can remember, and I’ve worked incredibly hard to pursue it, both academically and personally. Even when the odds have been against me.
I’ve been playing on the same clarinet for the past six years. While it’s gotten me far, it’s no longer able to keep up with the level of music I’m studying and performing. It's limiting me technically and musically, and upgrading is no longer just a want. It’s a necessity.
Despite those limitations, I’ve accomplished a lot. I’ve served as section leader in my high school band, played in the top ensembles at the Merit School of Music, and placed 2nd in a competition that awarded me $1,500 toward private lessons. I’ve also attended prestigious summer programs like Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and was selected for the 2025 Fortissima Cohort, which flew me to Los Angeles to study for a week at the Colburn School of Music.
When I applied to college, I received several generous scholarships, including one full-ride offer. I ultimately chose Lawrence University, where I’ll be studying with the incredible Dr. Andy Hudson: a clarinetist and incredible educator I'm very excited to work with. I’m beyond excited to grow under his mentorship and to immerse myself in a program that values both artistic excellence and community engagement.
In order to fully take advantage of this next chapter, I need to purchase a new clarinet. I’ve found a shop that sells professionally set-up, performance-ready instruments, and I would need about $4,800 to afford one. Because I receive little to no financial support from my family for music, and all of my current income goes toward paying for college, I have no other way to afford this essential tool. I’ve reached out to multiple organizations, but unfortunately, haven’t found any available funding.
That’s why I’m asking for your help. Every donation, no matter the size, brings me one step closer to being able to pursue my dreams without limitations. Whether you’re able to give or simply share my story, I’m so grateful for your support. Thank you for helping me invest in my future as a musician, educator, and lifelong learner.
