We are reaching out during an incredibly difficult and unexpected chapter in the life of Yafa Palvanova, a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and caregiver.
Yafa is a beautiful, warm-hearted 56 year old single mother of two wonderful daughters and a proud grandmother. She is known by everyone who meets her as someone who always puts others first, her family, her parents, her children, and even those beyond her own home.
At the start of the 2026 new year, Yafa’s life changed in an instant.
She is a woman who has always taken her health seriously staying active, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and keeping up with routine medical checkups. There were no warning signs, no symptoms, and no indications of concern that could have prepared her or her family for what was to come, until she began experiencing hip pain, which led doctors to discover a far more severe and life-altering condition. This devastating diagnosis came suddenly and without notice, turning her world upside down in a matter of moments.
She is currently hospitalized where she has been diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer). Due to complications from the disease, she’s already undergone an urgent left femur (hip) replacement surgery. This is only the beginning of a long and challenging road ahead.
In the next week Yafa awaits a radical nephrectomy (kidney removal) followed by systemic cancer treatment, including immunotherapy and then rehabilitation. Over the next 6 to 12 months, she will be unable to work or care for her household as she focuses on recovery and treatment. Her recovery will be long and demanding, involving significant pain from both major surgeries, intensive physical rehabilitation to relearn how to walk, strict restrictions on normal daily activities, ongoing medical monitoring, and the physical and emotional challenges that come with cancer treatment and living with one kidney.
During this time, Yafa and her family are facing overwhelming financial strain. Medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, rent and everyday living expenses continue to grow all while her ability to earn an income has come to a sudden stop.
Despite everything she is facing, Yafa has always been a pillar of strength for others. She is a hard working nurse who has dedicated her life to caring for people in their most vulnerable moments, offering comfort, compassion, and hope every single day. After long work shifts, she still finds the strength to lovingly care for her elderly parents, her 87 year old father and 76 year old mother, ensuring they are safe, supported, and never alone. She gives her heart fully to her children, her parents, and her extended family, always putting their needs before her own.
Now, she needs our help.
