A Mother’s Worst Fear: Help Yadira After Kidnapping Scam

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Crystal, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for support on behalf of my mother, Yadira, a strong and loving single mom who has recently endured a terrifying and financially devastating experience.

On April 1, 2025, my mother received a phone call that shook her to the core. A scammer, using artificial intelligence, posed as my sister Cynthia. The voice on the line was sobbing, terrified, and claimed she had been kidnapped by a group linked to the cartel. The caller said Cynthia had unknowingly witnessed a “drop,” saw armed men, and was taken as collateral to ensure her silence. They knew details about Cynthia’s location and daily routine, making the threat feel chillingly real.

They warned my mother not to speak to anyone — claiming she was being watched and that her phone was tapped. They said if the call was disconnected, they would harm “Cynthia” and come after my mom next.

In full-on mom mode and desperate to protect her daughter, Yadira complied with every demand. She withdrew a significant amount of money and sent it via Credit Union to individuals in Mexico, hoping it would secure their safety. The caller promised to check in the following day.

After a long, frantic day of running around, emotionally drained and fearing for Cynthia’s life, Yadira finally managed to get in touch with her — and to her overwhelming relief, Cynthia was completely fine. The entire situation had been an elaborate and deeply manipulative scam.

My mother collapsed emotionally as she explained what had happened, from leaving work mid-day to eventually sitting outside a police station, paralyzed by fear. When she arrived at the precinct to give her statement, the stress triggered a panic attack and dangerously high blood pressure, requiring emergency medical attention. Officers met her at the hospital, but unfortunately, all they could do was file a report. The money was gone — unrecoverable by both the police and the bank.

While we are beyond grateful that both my mother and sister are safe, the emotional scars will linger — and the financial loss is devastating. My mother not only lost a large portion of her personal savings but also funds she uses to support her youngest son and keep her small business afloat.

As a single mother of four, Yadira has worked tirelessly to build a better life for us, even putting three of her children through college. Now, after years of sacrifice and resilience, she’s facing an enormous setback through no fault of her own.

Our goal is to raise funds to help her cover essential living costs and stabilize her finances while she recovers from this traumatic experience. Any contribution, no matter the size, would mean the world to her and to us.

We understand that times are hard for many, and we deeply appreciate any kindness you can extend to our family. Please also help spread awareness about these incredibly convincing AI-driven scams. No one should have to experience what my mother went through.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Crystal
