Support Yaa and Her Twins Through Tough Times
Donation protected
Hi everyone this crosses paths with. My name is Yaa. I am hoping to raise funds to assist with funds to keep my lights on. At the end of 2023, I decided I wanted to have a baby as I was secure in my job and in my life. Never did I imagine that I would end up having twins. The moment I found out, I knew things financially after having them would get harder. But with twins came a high-risk pregnancy. I have MoDi twins, which are identical, meaning they shared a placenta but had separate sacs. So this required multiple appointments with MFM (high-risk doctors) every two weeks. I started using my time for those appointments, and at 20 weeks, I was admitted into the hospital with hypertension due to the pregnancy, which took up days of my time. Then on May 6th, I went in for my biweekly check-up where they said twin A was measuring small. At that point, I immediately knew it was serious. My twins developed TTTS (twin-twin transfusion syndrome). TTTS is a rare pregnancy condition that happens in a few identical twin pregnancies, causing one baby to have little to no amniotic fluid and the other to have too much. This causes one's bladder and kidneys to stop functioning and the baby to stop growing, and the other's heart to be in distress. There are 5 stages, and it can be fixed by surgery during pregnancy to cauterize the connecting veins and arteries in the placenta. Surgery doesn’t always work, so there were 3 options: do nothing, which both babies would end up passing; save one baby and let the smaller baby pass; or get the surgery in hopes that both survive and I don’t have placenta abruption. I chose to save both my girls, who at that time were in stage 3 out of 5. There are only a few doctors and hospitals in this country that are able to perform this procedure. So I had to drive 3 hours away for the surgery and be admitted for a week. At this point, I started using FMLA I applied for when I found out I was high risk. I ended up having to drive back for ultrasounds after until the doctor decided that both twins were viable and going in the right direction. I ended up having to go to my high-risk doctor twice a week plus my regular OB every 2 weeks. I ate through a lot of FMLA during my pregnancy. Then my twins came at 34 weeks weighing 3.10 & 3.15 lbs. They were in the NICU for 15 days. I am very fortunate they fought so hard to be here. But since my FMLA was halfway through during my pregnancy, I was out of FMLA when my twins were 7 weeks, which adjusted age would put them at newborn almost 1 week old, so they were not allowed to go to daycare until they got bigger and hit 8 weeks adjusted. This ended up making me have to leave my job of 2 years because no matter what, they wouldn’t work with me. So now I’m a twin mom with no income. I’ve been paying my bills with the money I had, but my light bill just kept getting higher and higher. Now we are facing disconnection on the 30th of April. I am working again but won’t have enough to pay my rent and lights. I am having a hard time getting assistance because they are completely booked at this time. I hate to ask for support, but this is something that will affect me and my children. It has gotten to the point that I don’t have many options. Any amount would help, thank you for taking the time to read this.
