Xochitl Cano, my life partner, has always been the kind of person who would give you her last dollar without hesitation. She is selfless, compassionate, and fiercely determined. Her dream was to become a nurse, and she was more than halfway through nursing school when life took an unexpected turn. During a routine doctor visit, Xochitl was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer. Suddenly, our world was turned upside down.
Despite the shock and fear, Xochitl refused to let her goals slip away. She endured chemotherapy and radiation five days a week, followed by brachytherapy. Even through the physical pain and relentless brain fog, she continued to do her homework and study for exams. Her resilience paid off—she graduated nursing school with straight As and has now officially passed her NCLEX exam. I am so proud of her strength and perseverance.
But while Xochitl was winning her battle to become a nurse, the financial weight of her diagnosis was creating a second crisis. Months of missed work and mounting medical costs have been devastating. Rent is going unpaid, bills are piling up, and late fees are making it impossible to catch up. Xochitl is still actively battling cancer, now on indefinite immunotherapy, and the financial situation is simply unsustainable. We are raising funds to stop the cycle of debt and cover rent, living expenses, and medical bills. Xochitl is always the first to help someone in need, but the last person to ask for help herself. Any donation will be deeply appreciated and will make a real difference as she continues her treatment and begins her career as a nurse.
