Dear Family and Friends,
We are in need of help.
In January of 2024, when Xiomara was just 4 months old, she was diagnosed with a rare life-threatening blood disease called Severe Congenital Neutropenia. This means her body does not produce a type of white blood cell called neutrophils. This white blood cell helps fight off any bacterial infections.
All her doctors were surprised that we caught this diagnosis when we did. They said this is usually caught too late and usually turns into leukemia. Due to her condition, she is at a 45 percent chance of developing leukemia.
Since her diagnosis last year in January, Xiomara has had to do daily injections called G-CSF. This injection is to help stimulate her bone marrow to produce these white blood cells. We’ve spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital due to her illness. Every time Xiomara would get sick, she would be rushed to the hospital because her body could not fight these infections. Anything from a fever, a cold, pink eye, or a simple ear infection would send her to the hospital where she would be put on IV antibiotics as well as other medications and would have a variety of tests done. An infection this small could be life-threatening to Xiomara.
This last year, Xiomara was hospitalized a total of 12 times. After a year of weekly blood work, doctors have determined that her G-CSF injections have not worked the way they wished they would have, and she is more at risk for developing leukemia. This illness has not allowed her to live a proper life.
Being only a year and a half, doctors have determined that the best course of action is now a bone marrow transplant. Thanks to the Lord, Xiomara has found a 10 out of 10 match in her older sister Ely. Getting a match this good is extremely difficult to find.
Before the transplant can happen, Xiomara has already undergone anesthesia to place a central line. After this, she will have to undergo 8 days of the most aggressive chemo possible in order to completely get rid of her bone marrow to be able to implant the new one. After her chemo, her sister Ely will undergo surgery to retrieve her bone marrow to be implanted into Xiomara that same day. After that, Xiomara has a long recovery to undergo, a recovery time of almost a year.
Due to this, Freddy (Dad) has had to stop working in order to be with Xiomara in the hospital due to her condition being so critical. Destiny (Mom) will continue to care for our other three daughters at home but will also be at the hospital when Ely undergoes anesthesia to retrieve her bone marrow.
We are reaching out for support now, something we have never done and hoped we would never need to.
We have started a GoFundMe to help with the financial burden of not being able to work properly, paying bills, the expenses of hospital life, and running both houses that Xiomara calls home.
Even after coming home, Xiomara has a long road ahead
We appreciate anything you can do, whether that be donating or spreading the word to those who can.
Thank you so much,
