We are asking you to invest in Xerria Smith’s future. We want to boomerang the generous love and kindness that she has brought to the world and send it right back to her.
If you haven’t met Xerria, here’s some things you need to know:
- Xerria graduated from Townview Magnet’s Health Professionals High School 6th in her class this past May! This is one of the top high schools in the country, and she is crazy smart and disciplined to make this happen.
- Xerria volunteered over 300 hours since November at the SPCA of Texas, where she confirmed her passion for animal welfare and her journey to one day become a Veterinarian. One thing that stands out about Xerria is her nor her dad have a car. For her to volunteer with us, she rode two buses each way to take care of the animals — this took 1.5 hours EACH WAY, all the while maintaining a 3.9 GPA.
- Xerria was accepted into the University of Houston, and she is moving there to attend school in two weeks. While she is registered and ready to go, Xerria is taking a leap of faith as she is funding her college all on her own. She is still figuring out how to close the gaps of her tuition, and she’s scared she might not have enough money even after earning some scholarships.
- Xerria’s dad has raised her and her siblings as a single parent as her mom has been unable to be present for Xerria physically, emotionally, and financially. While her dad has made tremendous strides to care for her and her brother since her early childhood, he still struggles to make ends meet despite being a very hard worker.
We believe good things should happen to good people despite the roadblocks we are born with. While poverty and addiction can be viscous generational cycles that hold us back, Xerria is breaking them.

On August 19, we are surprising Xerria with a going away clap-out during her last shift at the shelter. Everything we raise will be given to her on that day. If you feel compelled, chip in.
