My name is Miranda and my sweet grand baby Wyatt is fighting an up hill battle no one so small should ever have to. So many have shown love and prayed for him and are wanting ways to help as he and family fight to get him healthy. The battle is going to be long, exhausting, and expensive. From treatment, travel time, missed work, and care for their other 3 children, and in home expenses once he is well enough to continue care at home, this will likely be a life long battle.
Our goal is to relieve a little of the family's burden so they can focus their time and energy on their sweet little boy. Any help is so appreciated. Please share with anyone who would like to lighten their load.
Here is a message from Wyatt's Mom & Dad, Alexus & Tyler:
Wyatt is currently at Memorial Herman Childrens Hospital, being treated for failure to thrive. His weight had gotten dangerously low for brain development, which led to his GI doctor having him direct admitted to see if there was an obvious cause for his malabsorption issue, and to medically intervene for nutrition.
Currently, we've discovered that Wyatt has dysphagia, which is causing delayed swallow initiation when he eats. Which puts him at a higher risk of aspirating when he eats or drinks. This is due to his very low muscle tone. We've also discovered that Wyatt has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, which requires him to be on pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy. So far, we are treating the symptoms while his medical team works towards finding the underlying cause.
Once he gains enough weight and is able to go home, he will need a feed pump, specialized formula, and pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy. (Which will likely be a lifelong medication). Due to low muscle tone from the lack of ability to absorb nutrition, he also needs occupational, speech, and physical therapy. As well as regular monitoring for the foreseeable future. These are all the upfront costs we will most likely have when coming home.
