Support Wray's Recovery After Major Surgery
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Wray. I was in a car accident in 2020 and suffer from a C2 spinal cord injury. In August of this year I underwent a major surgery to repair some conditions I was suffering from as a result of my accident. The surgery did not go as planned and I ended up in the ICU for several weeks. In the past three and a half months, since the surgery, I went through the inpatient program at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopedics Institute (UMROI) and a sub-acute program at a skilled nursing facility. Now I'm back in the community and living on my own at the Hackerman-patz House, that is a part of the UMROI campus, so that I can participate in outpatient physical and occupational therapy. The team here is helping me to learn the skills that I need to be able to lead a successful and independent life and get home to my family. I have two wonderful little sons that need their dad to come home and stay home. Which means that I have to learn all that I can here to keep myself healthy. Unfortunately, I could not get funding to help pay my rent here and since there is an eight month waiting period for the waiver that will pay for my daily wound care needs, I'm paying out of pocket. I do not want to lose the opportunity that I've been given to progress here but I have exhausted my personal finances and I'm now in danger of having to return to a nursing home. I am reaching out to social services and the DHS for help. I'm doing everything I can to help myself but all of these things take time, that I do not have. I need to pay for two more months of rent and wound care services totaling $5,504.00. Please help me keep moving forward with my treatment. I can't express how grateful I am to all those who will donate. Thank you.
