Help Rene Anderson Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa

Our dear friend and colleague, Wray Anderson, is facing an unthinkable situation — his daughter, Rene Anderson, has suffered devastating losses in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Rene’s home and all her basic necessities have been severely damaged. She is currently without electricity, running water, or mobile phone access, leaving her isolated from loved ones and uncertain about what comes next. To make matters worse, Rene — a dedicated history teacher — has not yet been able to assess the extent of the damage to her school.

Wray is a beloved teacher and coach who has spent countless hours guiding, mentoring, and supporting his students both in and out of the classroom. He is the kind of educator who shows up for his students every single day — encouraging them, challenging them, and celebrating their successes. His students deeply respect and love him, not just for his dedication to their growth, but for the compassion and integrity he brings to everything he does. Now, it’s our turn to show that same care and support to him and his family in their time of need.

What happened: Hurricane Melissa’s impact

Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica as a Category 5 storm, with sustained winds reported at 185 mph when it made landfall in the southwestern part of the island. (CBS News)

It brought life-threatening storm surges, torrential rains (up to 3 feet in some areas), and catastrophic flooding across multiple parishes. (AP News)

Entire communities have experienced roof loss, structural collapse, downed power and communication lines, and impassable roads due to landslides and fallen trees. (ABC News)

This storm has left a trail of destruction that will take months — if not years — to rebuild from.
