On February 14th, Woody Broadnax passed away at home at the age of 78. Known by many as a charismatic fixture in his NE Portland neighborhood, Woody proudly told anyone who'd listen that he created Portland's first Juneteenth celebration. Adorned in a stylish suit and with a whole lot of charm, Woody loved the stage and was known for his soulful singing and dancing. He was also a talented comic book artist, with a trove of his own creations.
Woody was also a husband to Diane, and father to Brandon, Candace, Ashley, and Darnell. He is survived by his loving family who did their best to care for him throughout his life -- which was often a challenge. Ultimately, Woody succumbed to his poor health, leaving behind his family to pick up the pieces.
Diane was Woody's official caretaker, earning a monthly income from caring for him. Beyond that, Woody contributed monthly toward living costs. Losing these streams of income will have a significant impact on the family's ability to make ends meet.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to help cover costs associated with his passing: cremation, funeral, etc. In addition, we aim to raise enough for a few months of living expenses to make up for the loss of income.
If you're able, please chip in to help alleviate the financial burden this has caused. Thank you.
