Why are we funding?

Following the loss or shortfall in revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of gathered revenue into the club itself via any club or team sponsorship and individual players registrations (fees), unfortunately our costs continued, which has now left us in a shortfall into the club. These books will be balanced through additional “in house” fundraising events and such like but we seek your help by respectfully asking for any financial donations (however large or small) which will each together make us gain and feel more financially secure and supported.

Whilst we played very little football over the last two seasons, we still incurred normal running costs such as affiliation, insurance, and league costs (although some of these were subsidised), as well as additional costs such as additional travel costs due to social distancing requirements.  BPLG is run by a voluntary committee and a skilled group of football coach volunteers who provide high quality football coaching. Our club's policy is to try to keep player fees as low as possible to enable everyone to play football without financial barriers or hurdles (recognising individual hardship too) and to do this we operate the club on a break-even budget (season to season).

Our aim is to:

1) Raise funds for the club so we can pay our immediate and expected overheads for our 22-23 season such as away travel for the team (our football league fixtures are across 7 counties) and our match official fees. These two areas alone will help us bridge the gap as we seek to establish and or secure new sponsors.

2) Aspire to become a leading women’s football club in the FA Women's National League (requires promotion) - we want to lead by example around equity, diversity, and inclusion - promoting more and more opportunities for female football coaches, football referees and club committee members.

3) Encourage more females to come and enjoy playing football with us.  We are an ambitious club but our primary aim or focus is to ensure all players have fun in a most inclusive and welcoming environment; providing also role models to our future generation of female footballers and young people.

About Bowers & Pitsea Ladies & Girls FC (BPLG)

Bowers & Pitsea Ladies & Girls FC are a charitable women’s and girl’s football club playing in the FA Eastern Regional Women's Football League – Premier Division (5th tier of the women's football pyramid), playing their games in a geographical area of seven home counties. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and diverse club, with players and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds; with the club itself located within Pitsea, in South Essex (Just outside Basildon). Our community has its challenges and unfortunately suffers with its lack of employment and any affluent financial abundance; its infrastructure like many challenged communities means we lack real financial stability so all of our players “pay to play” the game they enjoy.

As a not-for-profit charity (established in December 2018), all the money we raise as a club goes back into the club seeking to help improving it, the teams, and individuals within.  Like many clubs who hope to provide more for their community and players our hope is to continue to improve in the club itself and from the field push for promotion which would take the club into the FA Women’s National League (4th tier of the women's football pyramid).

Our committee and management team of volunteers work tirelessly to drive and improve in what is done, recognising the importance of representations the community it serves. We encourage girls, irrespective of background or socio-economic circumstances, to play “our beautiful game” of football in the best and most entertaining way; and we want to support female players in reaching as a high a level of the game as possible but developing and extending the game always has its constraints financially, especially with the troubles we have all suffered in recent times.

The impact of COVID-19 and other challenges

These last two seasons of football have been severely disrupted by Covid-19 pandemic, which has led to a significant loss in our revenue streams.  The 20-21 season was especially difficult, the mitigation measures associated with Covid-19 hit us hard, as football stopped but our running costs did not.  The league fixtures finished most prematurely with only a handful of league games being played.  The fixtures in Season 21-22 improved on the previous but again business was disrupted; with many rules or mitigation measures having to be implemented to ensure public safety.  This period significantly reduces one of our revenue streams; through gate or turnstile receipts (although never more than £100).  This in turn had a huge effect on the amount of sponsorship we could obtain with many local companies wanting and having to protect their own businesses, jobs and their customer base. In addition to the problems we faced her we found a significant number of players from different age groups (through the youth section) stayed away for a great many weeks owing to want to protect family Covid-19 bubbles; which of course meant a significant drop in player registrations and subsequent fees.

Thank You!
