BARBARA BRYGIDER was diagnosed with a rare and incurable neurodegenerative disease called Corticobasal Degeneration. This disease affects the area of the brain that processes information and controls movement. Barbara lost her 6-year battle with CBD, but she never lost hope. Her spirit and resolve were inspiring to all who she touched.

Barbara was a strong advocate for women in the sciences. Through scholarships, the hope is to encourage young women to pursue career fields in medicine and research. Someday a cure can be found for rare diseases of this nature.

Sadly, not enough attention is given to this and other diseases on this spectrum because of their rarity.

That must end.
