Dave Wolf (aka "Wolfie"" is a St. Joseph legend, not only is he the voice we hear each morning informing us of all the local and high school sports each morning on WSJM Radio, but he's also the heartbeat behind St. Joseph Bears sports. He has announced, run the scoreboards, kept stats, updated the record books, run the video scoreboard, not only has he done this at home, but he volunteered to do most road games as well. He has been involved with the football, boys and girls basketball teams, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track and girls competitive cheer

However, 2025, has been a rough year for Dave, A bout of Pneumonia in March caused his transplanted kidney to fail in May, forcing him to go to dialysis treatments three days a week. Circulation problems in his feet caused two of the toes on his right foot to lose all blood flow and become very painful and made it necessary to amputate. Continued concerns over that limited blood flow to his foot made his doctors at Michigan Medicine suggest they amputate his right leg below the knee.

After having his leg amputated in November, Dave then completed his rehab stint at Mary Free Bend Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids until mid-December. But problems resurfaced as the wound for his amputation was not healing correctly and was becoming infected. Wolfie had to be transported back to Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor by Ambulance; doctors performed two more surgeries to try to clean out the wound before it could spread to the bone. Dave spent Christmas Day alone in the hospital while doctors were waiting to see if their doses of antibiotics would be able to save the rest of his leg. Over the weekend Dave started feeling intense pain in his leg and on the following Monday, Dave had his right knee amputated as well.

Dave was still feeling a high amount of pain after the surgery to remove his knee, and even now that he's home, he still feels the phantom pains from parts of his right leg that don't exist anymore as well as the continued pain from the most recent of his surgeries, which removed his knee.

Now that he is confined to a wheelchair, We are looking for help for Wolfie, but also his family which have taken most of the impact from Dave's increased medical needs. His insurance has decided that they will not cover his stay at Mary Free Bed, and most of his stay at the University of Michigan, even Corewell St. Joseph is taking this opportunity to dig deeper into Dave's and his family's pockets during this time, where Dave should worry about his recovery and eventually his return atop the pressbox at Dickinson Stadium for the St. Joe football opener against Niles.
