The Backstory
22 years ago when I started teaching WMA Karate in Brooklyn, I never thought I would have the good fortune of being part of such a wonderful community. 13 years ago, I opened the WMA Karate studio and have been a part of the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood ever since. Over the years, our studio has been a home base to many affiliates, athletes, students young and seasoned, guests and pro bono events; providing a welcoming and relaxing place of practice within our hectic city. I would like to continue to serve this community in the space that holds my expression of the beauty and creativity of martial arts.
With the current New York pause of non-essential businesses due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the high cost of rent on Atlantic Ave, the dramatic change in the neighborhood and the recent birth of my first daughter, WMA Karate is struggling to keep its place on Atlantic Ave. In order to keep our school open through the summer, swift action is needed to raise $21,000 for rent.
Because of this unfortunate set of circumstances, we are asking for the immediate help of our beloved community to support us through this tough time so that our legacy may continue to live on in the Brooklyn Heights area without an increase of tuition to our students.
How You Can Help
We understand that this tragedy has affected everyone, but if you’re fortunate enough to give what you can, even as little as ten dollars, you will forever have the utmost gratitude from this long-standing NYC small business. You can also help by sharing our story with your friends and family with a link to our page.
It has been an honor being a part of this community and to have contributed to the health, wellness, strength and security of our students of New York. I wish you all the best.
Thank you.
