I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my colleague Pari Temai González Torrez. Pari is seeking support to help pay for urgent medical treatment for his father, Uxatemai Juan Antonio González González. Uxatemai Juan Antonio González González is an Indigenous Wixarika man from the Sierra Norte of Jalisco. He has spent much of his life serving his community as a representative of the comuneros and a spiritual guide. For the past four years, he has also been a communal authority and a Mara’akame (shaman).

Two years ago, he underwent the first surgery of his life due to a kidney tumor. At 66 years old, he was left with a colostomy bag, and doctors required a series of expensive tests because the tumor was considered cancerous and had metastasized. Over the past two years, he has undergone numerous medical studies so that doctors could determine whether it would be possible to remove the colostomy bag.

As an Indigenous person with limited resources, covering these medical expenses has been extremely difficult. A month ago, he was hospitalized again, and during his stay, doctors discovered another tumor in his bladder, further complicating his condition.

So far, he has been receiving costly medications and liquid nutrition, which have been difficult to afford in Mexico. It is still unclear when he will be discharged from the hospital, as more tests are needed to determine whether chemotherapy or radiation therapy will be necessary.

Any support, no matter how small, would make a huge difference in helping cover his medical costs and ensuring he gets the care he needs. Many thanks!

Durante estos dos años, ha pasado por numerosos estudios médicos para que los doctores determinaran si sería posible retirarle la bolsa de colostomía.

Como persona indígena con recursos limitados, cubrir estos gastos médicos ha sido extremadamente difícil. Hace un mes, fue hospitalizado nuevamente y, durante su estancia, los médicos descubrieron otro tumor en su vejiga, lo que ha complicado aún más su estado de salud.

Hasta ahora, ha estado recibiendo medicamentos costosos y alimentación líquida, lo cual ha sido difícil de costear en México. Aún no se sabe cuándo podrá salir del hospital, ya que necesita más estudios para determinar si será necesario someterse a quimioterapia o radioterapia.
