Support With Rent and Basics While We Get Back on Our Feet

Hi everyone,

We’re a family of four — two parents and our kids, ages 6 and 1, just trying to stay steady through a rough stretch.

A few months ago, my wife suffered a significant injury that left her unable to perform the functions of her job. Around the same time, my own work started drying up for the summer — just as I was finally able to start picking up more hours. With one income gone and the other shrinking, we quickly found ourselves falling behind on rent, even after cutting every non-essential expense.

We applied for rental assistance through the city as soon as this started, but that process has been painfully slow and there's no guarantee that they will help. It’s been over four months, and while our landlords have been understanding so far, they’re running out of patience. We now owe about $5,500 in back rent, and it's coming due at the end of this month.

Despite this being really hard we still see the light at the end of this. My work is going to pick up significantly starting in early August, and my wife is also preparing to return to work around then. But right now, we're in this awful in-between where the bills haven’t slowed down, and we’ve run out of ways to keep up.

I’m honestly not one to seek help like this, I want nothing but to be able to take care of this myself.. but I’m trying to set my pride aside, because what matters more than anything is keeping our little ones safe and housed. We’ve been doing everything we can — applying to every program, reaching out to agencies — but we’re out of time and options.
