Support WISE in Saving More Dogs for National Rescue Dog Day
Tax deductible
It makes me sick to think of what might have happened to each of the dogs I fostered if it weren’t for the amazing WISE Animal Rescue.
WISE is a foster-based rescue dedicated to rescuing animals of all ages and breeds from places where they are no longer wanted or not being properly cared for. Most frequently, WISE transports dogs from puppy mills across the U.S. to foster homes in New Jersey. The dogs transported from puppy mills were often supposed to be euthanized before WISE stepped in to save them.
“In puppy mills, mother dogs spend their entire lives in cramped cages with little to no personal attention. When the mother and father dogs can no longer breed, they are abandoned or killed,” according to the Humane Society.
Over the last 6 months, I have fostered 5 dogs through WISE. All of these dogs came into my home under extreme stress with lots of trauma. Almost every one of them was afraid to be touched by a human at first and did not eat for days.
These dogs did not yet understand what it meant to be a dog. They were unable to walk on a leash, they did not recognize the concept of a “treat,” and it took them a long time to learn that the human touch can actually be a good thing. Regardless of how long each of these pups was under my care, it was amazing to see how much they grew as they learned what it meant to be loved.
One thing about working in animal welfare is you need to always be ready for the unexpected. Right now, WISE is footing the medical bill for an adorable Golden Retriever puppy who was bit by another dog and had to have orthopedic surgery to his mouth, as well as supporting medical care for Cavalier mixes who need heart surgery. These are just two examples of the endless medical bills WISE will cover.
If WISE does not raise enough in funds, they will be unable to save more dogs. These past two weeks, WISE has been unable to take in any more rescue dogs from transport because they are devoting their funds to the dogs already in their care.
Across the United States, especially in urban areas, animal shelters are at capacity. More people are breeding more dogs. And more dogs in shelters are being put down because they have not been adopted. There is so much wrong with the way we handle animal welfare in the United States, but I knew I wanted to volunteer with WISE because they did not have a shelter for abandoned animals to return to if they were rejected. Dogs deserve individualized attention and dedicated care so they can thrive.
In honor of National Rescue Dog Day, I am asking for everyone who reads this to donate to WISE. As a foster for them the past 6 months, they supplied me with everything I needed to care for these animals, free of cost. From crates, to harnesses, to food, I was able to help save 5 dogs thanks to funds provided by donors like you. I implore you to consider donating to this amazing cause — whatever you can. Every little bit helps!
Please head to the link in my bio to donate to the GoFundMe I set up — hoping to reach at least $1000 raised for WISE!
