Support Winston's Journey to Health

UPDATE AS OF 7 PM 4/18. :blood test came back and the levels of lead are low enough to not require surgery. There’s still some but it seems to be dwindling down. He’s got a bacteria infection with his crop so he’s getting medicated for both of those. Thank you for you generation donations so far, we’re hoping this is the worst of what’s going on. The only concern is the weight loss issue which seems drastically high. They’re watching him overnight and will know how he does tomorrow morning.

Worst Good Friday for our flock. This week our 3 year old cockatiel Winston started loosing a lot of weight and barely ate his food. Very concerned, we separated him and monitored his behavior. We got him with our local vet and was sent home with some antibiotics for a crop infection. Two days went and he got worse, very weak and out of it, still trying to eat but not nearly enough of what he needs. Every time we took him out of the cage he was on the prowl for any kind of food, which is abnormal for him. My boyfriend Nick and I took these signs as something we feared and spoke to our vet. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any available emergency testing or services to get him checked out immediately and we could not wait any longer to find out what’s been going on. We took him 5 hours away from home to mspca animal hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Our choice in the spur of the moment. Got there late at 11:00 pm Thursday April 17th. He’s been in the hospital since then on intensive care to get his body back into a healthy state to get possible treatments and xrays. As of now, it’s looking like lead or zinc poisoning. The treatment for this could be a few weeks to months depending on the severity, which I’m hoping we caught it a bit earlier since he’s not showing all signs of the poising symptoms. Please, keep our little baby Winston in your prayers, thoughts, anything to send positive vibes. Lastly, I hate to ask for help with financials but with the way it’s going the bill is getting higher than anticipated. We appreciate any little bit, all will go to Winston’s treatment and journey to get him back to his singing happy self. (Today is also his hatch day, April 18th.)
