In the last few months, our friend Winnie Gu (37)—a hardworking small business owner in Denver and a loving mom to a son and daughter (16 and 18)—has been pushed into a crisis that threatens both her home and her livelihood.

Winnie has spent years building a recycling business that serves local companies and keeps materials out of landfills. Recently, a dispute over the company’s control led to financial and operational turmoil. During this time, key systems were taken out of Winnie’s reach and funds went missing. This left bills unpaid and revenue was halted. Although Winnie won proprietorship in court, a new challenge emerged internally. The situation has left the business unable to function with mounting debts and an eviction now looming.

Winnie is a single mother and a legal immigrant from China who has poured everything into providing for her kids and keeping her business serving the community. She’s doing everything by the book—working with counsel and preparing filings—but the next court steps won’t happen in time to prevent immediate harm without help.
