Support Captain Windy Marshall's Final Farewell

Donation protected
Update: Thank you!!! We exceeded goal!!! Thank you to everyone, especially the Valentinos, our step brother Jason Skeens & his wife and Pat Flanagan who took time to assist Monica with the daunting task of sifting through Dad's things. I have tear filled eyes knowing Dad's going to reach his destination because he has the most amazing friends and community. Every person played an important part in helping dad get to his final resting place. It seems as if Thank You isn't enough. Everything received over goal will go to removing Dad's belongings from the duplex, storage & celebration of life. And any other challenges that come up related to Dad's passing.

As most of you know, Windy is a Military Veteran, Veteran Fishing Guide and has two daughters, Monica and Andrea. I'm Andrea, and I'm making this GoFundMe page for Captain Windy Marshall, Dad

On December 21, 2024, it started like any other day. Dad proceeded to get dressed, grabbed his coffee mug and phone, and headed out to the truck to begin his day at the place he loved so much, with the people most dear to him, where he's spent most of his life, Eagle Point Marina. Sadly, Dad didn't get that far. He collapsed at the truck. A passer-by spotted Dad in the front yard and called 911. Upon arrival, EMS and local police reported "no pulse." It appeared Dad passed before the first responders arrived. Of course, they initiated life-saving procedures until arrival at the hospital, where they stopped at 8:08 am. I received a phone call from the ER nurse at precisely 8:30 am advising me Windy was in the ER and to come to the HCA Mainland ER. I didn't know his status until I arrived. Shocked, confused, and sad and trying to get to La Marque as quickly as I could. I definitely wasn't expecting this news I received. He's such a powerhouse of life. And for this critical information to be delivered to me NOT by the nurse, nor the physician, BUT the security guard who was clearly eating a sandwich as the condiments were smeared all over his face, still chewing, while telling me the funeral home already picked up the body. What? What are you talking about? I yelled. He said they came about an hour ago and took him to the morgue. WOW!! So much information thrown at me so quickly, emotions overload. I have to stress THAT is not what I was expecting.
Anyway, fast-forward... Monica and I have been to Windy's place several times. We have been unsuccessful in locating life insurance, a Will, or bank account information. We did find his DD214 Militar Form but the VA won't pay for the cremation. I thought they took care of all Veterans. We've reached out to several attorneys and his lifelong friends, who told us none had a will or knowledge of life insurance, etc. With this being Christmas, which is usually a pretty pricey holiday for most, us included, we are finding ourselves short for the cost of his cremation, viewing, and removal of his belongings from the duplex he rented, storage, and everything that goes with moving someone out. So many unexpected expenses. We are having a difficult time pulling the funds together in such a short time. Monica and I started to have a limited viewing, which meant no embalming, no casket, no clothes, just a hospital gown, on a slab, only 10 people for 1 hour. But there have been so many requests for a final viewing we felt if we can raise the money we could satisfy all his friends and people he thought of as family. We would like to have a celebration of life and give everyone an opportunity to say their final goodbyes to dad.
We understand this time of year, most people don't have anything to give and that's OK. It does not mean you felt anything less for Windy. However, if you can spare anything we would greatly appreciate the help getting him to his final resting place which will be ashes sprinkled over the bay. If we are unable to collect the cost by Jan 1, 2025 we will have to follow through on the original thought of a limited viewing.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and thank you for remembering Dad.
