Support Windy Ridge K-8's Future Problem Solvers

Hello, friends!

Our Windy Ridge K-8 School's Future Problem Solving team is excited to be heading to Indiana University next week to compete in the International Conference! Both of our school teams took top honors in our district competition, then one team followed it up with a 1st place win at the state level. This was our school’s second year in a row to have a team place first in the state, and we are extremely proud of all our students!

What is Future Problem Solving?

Future Problem Solving is an international organization that has been around for 50 years. Students in the Global Issues program research and analyze real world issues such as autonomous transportation, food security, or air pollution. During the 2 hour competition, teams are given a hypothetical future scenario based on the topic they’ve been researching. Using a structured 6-step problem-solving method, they identify potential challenges, brainstorm solutions, and develop a relevant action plan.

FPS is a fantastic way for students to develop important skills such as teamwork, creativity, communication, and critical thinking. These skills will not only help them in their own lives and careers, but will prepare them to truly be the problem solvers of the future!

Can you help?

In the past, we have been able to do school-wide fundraisers to help with the costs of attending the competition, and last year our school had the funds to pay for all of the students. But due to a variety of circumstances this year, including a tighter school budget and a death in our coach’s family, we weren’t able to do a fundraiser or receive as much help from the school.

Between the cost of registration, room and board, and airfare for each student and his/her parent chaperone, each family has to pay almost $2000. This is a substantial amount for all of us, and is particularly tough for some of our families. It would be extremely helpful if we were able to offset some of these costs through this fundraiser. Any funds we raise will be divided equally amongst the students.
