In 2018, Will Leko, who is today only 8 years old, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

DMD is a rare and heart-breaking terminal genetic disease caused by a mutation in patients' DNA. The disorder shortens their life spans drastically into their teens and early 20s. Until recently, there weren’t many FDA approved treatments for most DMD patients. Will’s parents, Baylee and Kyle Leko, have been extremely active in searching for treatment options for Will that could increase his life span and potentially save his young life. Now, there is an opportunity to drastically improve his quality of life while doctors and research teams continue to search for a cure.

Recently, Will was approved for a new gene therapy treatment option developed by the pharmaceutical company Sarepta Therapeutics. He is in desperate need of this treatment, however, it comes with heavy financial burdens. The family will have to temporarily relocate and quarantine for 12 weeks in Nashville while Will undergoes treatment and monitoring. Baylee will have to take an unpaid leave of absence from both of her jobs. Luckily, Kyle will be able to continue working remotely, but without Baylee’s income, the additional expenses on top of their current bills will quickly overwhelm them without some extra help.
