Hi I am Halle.
My nephew Will, legally blind since birth, has worked tirelessly to reach law school, determined to advocate for others with disabilities. Now, the federal funding he relied on for tuition has suddenly disappeared. I’m asking for your help to keep his dream alive. Help Will today, so he can help others tomorrow.
My nephew Will has worked incredibly hard to get where he is today.
Will is legally blind, but he has never allowed his disability to determine what he can accomplish. He got great grades, got into a great school, and even received a Fulbright scholarship to Guatemala for environmental conservation efforts last summer.
This year, he began law school at UC Davis to become a lawyer so he can fight for people with disabilities. He applied for and received a grant to help cover his tuition. That support was essential to planning this next stage of his life’s work. But then, suddenly, the administration rescinded the funds.
On Monday, August 31, applicants for employment, education, and training funds, including Will, were told by state officials that the federal Rehabilitation Services Administration was immediately cutting all federal funding to state departments of rehabilitation due to the federal interpretation that such programs constituted “waste, fraud or abuse.” Will is in Category 1, the most seriously impaired disability group.
For Will, this isn’t an inconvenience. It has left a very real financial gap that could affect his ability to continue the education he has worked so hard to earn.
I love Will. I admire him. And I think we need more people in the world like him.
So I’m doing something I don’t normally do: I’m asking my community for help.
And here’s my goal. 600 people $100 each. Please be one of the 600.
Help Will today so he can help others tomorrow. Thank you!
