William Hamm’s Cancer Fighting Fund

We are asking for support for William Hamm and our family after his recent stage four brain cancer diagnosis known as Glioblastoma. William is a husband to Rebecca, father to four kids, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

On March 6th, my dad was in the car with my mom when he suddenly had a seizure. He was rushed to the hospital where they did a cat-scan which showed two tumors- one the size of a golf-ball that needed to be removed immediately and a second one that was in an inoperable location. On March 10th, he went in for brain surgery to remove as much of the golf-ball size tumor as possible. The surgery was successful in that the surgeon took out as much as he could which would hopefully help with decreasing the swelling on the brain that was causing the seizures. However, given the type of tumor that it is (infiltrating into the brain tissue), they could not completely remove all of it without damaging his ability to speak (among many other serious risks). His speech and memory have been affected but he is doing well all things considered. The biopsy results came back as stage four brain cancer and he will be starting radiation and chemo next week.

In the fall, my dad started to renovate their main living floor. This caused my mom and him to move to the second floor. As he was doing the renovation, he damaged his shoulder and ended up needing a total shoulder replacement at the end of October. He was out of work until the end of January and was only back to work for three weeks before his tumors were discovered. We are currently applying for disability, however there is a five month waiting period and he has exhausted his current sick leave.

Because of all of this, there are many financial needs that my parents are experiencing: medical bills that have started coming in, repairing the first floor ASAP because when he starts chemo and radiation he won’t be able to get up the stairs to the second floor, gas to travel from Hudson to Albany every day for radiation the next six weeks+, etc. We appreciate any amount you are willing to give and cannot thank friends and family enough for the outpouring of love and support we have already received. Please continue to pray as we journey through this difficult time.
