Support William Baril's Heart Surgery Recovery
Donation protected
This sweet boy is named William Baril. He is the son of Mathieu and Annabel Baril and at only three months old underwent open heart surgery on 7/18 due to a congenital heart defect. The operation to repair a small hole in his heart was initially successful- however after waking up it was discovered that his left vocal cord had become paralyzed as a complication of the surgery. William is currently in the ICU and is expected to remain there for several weeks. He has to remain on a feeding tube due to the paralyzed vocal cord, and at this point it is unknown if the condition will remedy itself or persist, possibly indefinitely. Additionally, William will have to receive care from a cardiologist for the remainder of his life.
Annabel and Mathieu have a 2 year old daughter who misses her brother and who has had her life turned upside down as her parents do their best to divide their time between home and the hospital. Annabel herself suffers from several medical conditions and is struggling to take care of herself physically and mentally while also taking care of her two sweet children. Despite everything she is going through, she continues to be an example of strength and a light to everyone around her. I met Annabel on my service mission to Tahiti and was blown away by her love and compassion for others and for Christ. Though I was her mission trainer, I constantly felt like she was the one teaching me through her example. Even throughout this difficult ordeal, she has kept her spirits high, relied on her faith and her testimony, and served the people around her in the hospital. She is one of the kindest and most compassionate people that I have ever met.
Both she and her husband are on maternity/paternity leave at the moment and are relying on very fixed/reduced incomes. They have had and will have many additional unexpected expenses including transportation to and from the hospital, food, medications, and medical supplies. At this point they don’t know how long William will be in the hospital, if his vocal cord condition will heal on its own, or what type of continuing medical care and supplies he may need.
I’m asking anyone who is able to donate even a small amount to help alleviate some of the financial burden amidst all of this uncertainty. This would give them the ability to take the time that they need to see their son through this difficult period without needing to return to work early or worry about how they are going to pay for his future care. If you are able to, please donate. If you are unable to donate, please share this post. And above all, please keep the Baril family and William in your prayers. Thank you.
7/27 Update: William has contracted a virus in the hospital and is receiving further treatment to fight it off. The recovery from his heart surgery is going well, but his vocal cord remains paralyzed for the time being. We will update again when there is more news.
8/6 Update: So happy to be able to report some good news! William passed his swallow test and was able to have his feeding tube removed. His vocal cord still remains partially paralyzed but they are hopeful that it will continue to improve with time. On August 5th he was approved to continue his recovery at home! He remains on an antibiotic for the infection he contracted and will continue to be monitored closely. One of his nurses said that he was the fastest healing open heart patient she had ever encountered! His parents are so grateful for all of your prayers and your support. Thank you!
Merci beaucoup.
