Support Willem Joosse’s Road to Recovery
On September 25, 2024, Willem Joosse suffered a life-threatening brain aneurysm rupture at home. He was rushed to Oneonta’s ER, where doctors discovered the rupture and immediately transported him to Albany Med’s Neuro ICU. Will underwent two emergency surgeries—one to install a drain in his skull to relieve pressure from excess fluid in his brain and another to implant a coil to prevent future ruptures.
In the days leading up to this, Will had been experiencing severe headaches, which doctors now believe were signs of an initial bleed. The blood in his brain has caused severe vasospasms in the blood vessels requiring ongoing procedures. He has been undergoing multiple procedures where he receives medication directly into the vessels in his brain to prevent them from narrowing and cutting off the oxygen supply.
His journey so far has been incredibly challenging, but we’re seeing positive signs. Will is slowly regaining his speech and has made progress with movement on his right side—he can now move his arm and even has been able to wiggle his right toes and move his ankle. He’s receiving round-the-clock neuro care and will likely remain in the ICU for several more weeks before beginning the next step of his recovery: rehabilitation.
This tragedy has struck just as Will was starting a new chapter in life. He and his girlfriend Racheal had recently moved into the dream home they spent months building together, and they were excited to make new memories with their beloved dog Leo by their side. What was meant to be a time of joy and fresh beginnings has now turned into a fight for recovery.
Will has a long road ahead, but with your support, we can help him and his family focus on healing. Please consider contributing to his recovery fund and sharing this post to help us reach as many people as possible. Every bit helps as we work toward his full recovery. Thank you for your kindness and generosity and please continue to pray for Will and his family through this difficult time.
