Hello friends!

I'm Violet Crabtree, award-winning filmmaker and creator of the feature film Wildfur. Wildfur is a stop motion hybrid set in a familiar but surreal world. Finnea Wildfur is a Sasquatch whose forest home is being exploited by the evil capitalist destroyer Bill Ding, a villain with a house for a head. He has also corrupted the townspeople with his highly addictive Comfort Screens.™ Finnea and friends work together to restore balance and reconnect people with nature.
Wildfur is a film for all ages
70+ minutes long

My film is set to premiere at Eureka Theater September 6th!

I've been steadily working on Wildfur since March 2020. That's 6.5 years of dedicated labor: making stop motion puppets, building sets, making costumes, and painstakingly, frame by frame, stop motion animating. In August and September of 2022. The live action portion of Wildfur was filmed during an artist residency at The Creative Sanctuary in Arcata, with the help of so many lovely people. Most of the live footage is layered on top of miniature sets, and often the actors are interacting with puppets.

Wildfur was conceived nearly 10 years ago, as an illustrated story with a limited edition print run by Bug Press, created for The Creative Sanctuary's Community Supported Art program. The story was born out of my frustration with the 2016 presidential election results. I didn't like feeling powerless while a rapist was being installed as our commander in chief, and while climate change and forest mismanagement were causing wildfires to rage all around me. I feel strongly that my job as an artist is to attempt to change culture by influencing young people to care and work toward creating a world that is wonderful to live in.

In December 2019 I was awarded the Field of Interest grant by Humboldt Area Foundation to begin work on the film, as well as teach stop motion classes for Apprentice Entertainment after school program at Playhouse Arts in Arcata.

In 2021 I received a grant from Grace Us Foundation to continue work on the film, as well as teach stop motion again at Playhouse Arts.

As the years went by, my film became mostly self-funded. In September 2024 we had a successful fundraiser at Nowhere in Arcata

My goal is to raise funds to pay for gorgeous poster art by Grammy award winning artist Dave Van Patten and also to pay entry fees to film festivals.

I'm part of Puppet People, a DreamMaker project of The Ink People. Ink People is a community-based, grassroots, artist-run, arts and culture organization that connects the Humboldt community with resources for cultural development .

Goals:

~$700 Dave Van Patten poster art
-to help promote the premiere
-to use as cover art for the film

~$100 Full color poster and handbill printing at Bug Press, a local printshop. This will include printing full color Wildfur posters by Dave Van Patten, Moxie Saturday and Amber McCall

Film Festival Entry Fees:

~$53 Portland Ecofilm Fest

~$50 San Francisco Independent Film Fest

~$40 Wild & Scenic Film Fest

~$50 WRPN Women's International Film Fest

~$40 Cucalorus Film Fest

~$40 Imagine This Women's Film Fest

~$27 Fisura International Fest of Experimental Film and Video

~$22 Like You Children's Film Fest

~$15 Experimental Film Guanajuato

~$29 GoFundMe fee (2.2%)

~$170 Ink People (15%)

Total:

Thank you! It's been a long journey! I'm committed to seeing this project through, by sending this movie out in the world, inside the redwood curtain and beyond...
