Have you ever experienced a loss that hurts so bad you can't function normally? If not, consider yourself lucky. If so, you know that it takes a village to support a person in the thick of grief.
On November 12, 2024, an explosion occurred at the Givaudan Sense Color facility in Louisville, KY, fatally injuring two employees and injuring eleven others. One of the employees who lost their life that day was Keven Dawson, who left behind a family that is still grappling with his loss.
His partner, Malaika, is still struggling one year later to maintain the home they shared as she navigates grief, parenting, and a career change. Malaika has experienced a severe onset of grief as the first anniversary of Keven's loss has approached. Her grief has impacted her ability to work. As the sole provider for the household, she could use help with monthly living expenses.
The fatal incident was caused by corporate negligence, for which neither the families nor the impacted community members have received justice.
Donating will help Malaika and her children stay in the home that she and her late partner created together, maintain stability for the children impacted by this loss, and allow her to go into the holiday season, where grief hits the hardest, without financial woes clouding her mind.
This GoFundMe has been created by Street Widows Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving young widows and grieving families who have experienced traumatic loss as a result of injustice. We have connected Malaika to legal aid, mental health treatment, and a new family of widowed women who have supported her along her journey, but we do not have funding to support her financially - we are asking for your help to serve this family.
