Hello, friends.
I’ve finally gotten around to doing something I’ve always wanted to do: Write a book. For the last several months I’ve been working on my memoir, "Spinnin’ ‘n’ Winnin’: How Basketball Helped Me Through Anxiety, Depression, Divorce and Made Me a Better Dad."
The book touches on my childhood, my time at Riverdale Country School, The Gunnery and Vanderbilt; what it was like growing up in NYC, and then living in Nashville and San Diego; my time as a sportswriter covering UVA basketball; and of course the Knicks.
Putting my story out into the world, as opposed to telling other people’s stories — something I’ve done my entire career — has been cathartic beyond words.
I’m also hoping the book will help people who are grappling with their own challenges and may be quietly suffering like I was.
But above all else, my hope is that someday, when they’re old enough, my kids will read the book and be proud of some of the things I accomplished and how I never gave up when I hit bumps in the road.
At this point, I’ve written several chapters and will soon begin working with one of the best editors I know.
Because I need to do more traveling in order to complete the book, I’ve started this campaign. Any size donation would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve only just begun the process of talking with literary agents. If you have recommendations for ones who specialize in memoirs, please reach out.
If you’d like to know more about the book, please visit my website — spinninNwinnin.com.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and for any support moving forward.
