Honey Bun needs help
Tax deductible
We need help to pay for vet bills for our rescue kitten Honey Bun. She is one of the 5 kittens we rescued from a Flatbush backyard in early May. The kittens were found in a rusted container. They were about 4 weeks old, covered in lice and fleas. The mom was nearby, so we trapped her and reunited her with the kittens. After the kits were weaned, the mom was spayed and returned to her backyard. Her feeders were relieved to have her back.
Alas, the kittens' journey has just begun. One week from arrival, one of the kittens, Cosmic Brownie, was diagnosed with panleukopenia. She was taken to VERG and humanely PTS. Only thanks to the devoted foster family, the siblings survived what is usually a death sentence for little immunocompromised kittens.
Throughout these past few months, Honey Bun suffered from sudden high fevers on top of "ordinary" kitten ailments like diarrhea, UTI, URI, and - ringworm. She grew more slowly than her siblings, and in early June, she decided to stop eating and required hand feeding. By the end of June, she started losing weight. Currently she weights less than 2lbs - half of what a healthy kitten her age should weigh. Our vets suggested treatments (B12, antibiotics). Parts of her blood test improved, but she remained tiny and sad looking.
In early August, another bout of very high fever prompted a visit to VERG. Honey Bun was hospitalized in urgent care for 3 days and underwent several tests which still did not provide answers to her illness. We are exploring our options (specialists, MRI, AMC?) to try and make sure she doesn't need to be hospitalized again.
We are looking for help to cover her VERG bill which came to $4,600. Honey Bun is a fighter, and we are committed to getting her treated, but we have many cats under our care and very few resources to take care of them. We try to make sure that adoption fees cover our expenses, but it's difficult when we get hit with huge bills like this one. We are hoping to recoup some of the money spent so we can continue pursuing diagnostic tests for Honey Bun.
Thank you so much for for reading, donating, and sharing our fundraiser.
