Support while Matthew is in the ICU from DKA &kidney issues
Donation protected
Hi. I’m Allyson. My fiancé Matthew is a type 1 diabetic. His insulin pump as been broken for about 2 weeks, and he’s been on shots until his appt coming up on the 11th to get and set up his new pump. He ended up getting really sick very fast from Sunday night just into Monday morning, even with the insulin shots while waiting on his new pump, he soon went into DKA Monday afternoon (diabetic ketone acidosis) and his sugar was at 1,000. His heart stopped in the er for 10 minutes while they did cpr and gave him adrenaline to start it back. He’s been in the ICU on a ventilator to keep him breathing while being heavily sedated. His sugar has since came down and stable, but we have a new big concern now: Since he went into DKA with such high blood sugar, his kidneys have worsen significantly and they are trying medications to get his kidneys to kick in and filter better and relieve fluid buildup. We pray it works, but if not they may have to start talking about dialysis… which is worst case scenario.
I am his immediate caretaker as we live together of course, but I’m going to have to go on an LOA from my full time job, and we are unsure how long the leave will be due to the uncertainty of his kidneys conditions, and unfortunately where I'm not the one admitted to the hospital, it will be an unpaid leave. We have bills still coming in, and of course as we all know, bills don’t go away regardless what life throws at you.
Any donations we receive will cover our car payments, lights, money for food for our animals when they get low, cover food costs for me as I stay at the hospital, and go to gas for my commute to and from our house and the hospital so I can care for our dogs, ducks and bird since I’m staying each night in the ICU with him here.
If anyone could donate, no matter what amount, and please share to spread the word, it would be so greatly appreciated. It’s very hard to keep my head on straight and worried sick about him, while also having to start a claim with my work for an LOA dealing with that mess and running back and fourth from the hospital to our house 40 minutes away each day to care for our animals. His mom is helping all she can and visiting as well, but she also works full time and we are overwhelmed and super worried about Matthew.
Please share, donate anything that you can, and please send prayers and good thoughts our way for Matt that he gets his kidney function back and eventually wakes from his sedation they are taking him off of now.
Thank you for reading our story. Much love and have a blessed day.
