Film has become a medium for us to understand others, to understand ourselves. Moments in childhood shape who we become - where we learn what safety feels like, or how it feels when it's taken away.
What It Takes is a short narrative film about the emotional cost of family, and what it truly means to protect someone you love when survival isn’t clean. This film explores how you cannot always save the ones you love, and doing the “right” thing can still feel devastating.
This story explores not only how destructive addiction can be, but how much love can exist beside the ruin.
This story is being brought to life by Fluorine Films, nine University of Wisconsin - Madison students in the capstone production course. Piecing together each unique vision from each department.

We aim to tell stories that evoke empathy and compassion, reminding audiences that even in chaos, people are worthy of understanding and care.
We need help raising funds to cover production costs:
- Food/Craft services for all cast and crew
- Compensating our cast for the artistic craft they bring to the screen
- Dressing our locations to bring the story world to life
- Costume and makeup - we need a bloody lip!
- And more!

We need your help to get our film off the ground. Any contributions made will go toward paying for production costs. We thank you in advance for your generosity in helping us build a space to tell a story that deeply touches our hearts, and we hope it does the same to yours. Supporting this project helps us craft a narrative for anyone who has loved someone they couldn't save.
